Spanish energy supplier Iberdrola has commissioned its first solar park in Germany in Boldekow (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). Covering an area of around 46 hectares, the park is expected to produce up to 53 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, all of which will be supplied to network operator Vodafone. The electricity supply contract has been concluded for 15 years. According to Vodafone, the solar power from the 56-megawatt plant is sufficient to operate around 3,000 cell towers. Over the planned 30-year lifespan of the plant, Iberdrola’s solar park is expected to save around 20,000 tons of CO₂ annually.

Until now, Iberdrola has been best known for its offshore projects in the Baltic Sea, which include plants such as Wikinger, Baltic Eagle, and Windanker. With the new solar park, the energy supplier is now expanding its commitment in Germany to include onshore projects. The solar park was implemented with partner companies such as Solarpro, Sungrow, P&Q, and 4Energy.
