IBC Solar is industry partner for energy supply project in Namibia

German PV system provider and project developer IBC Solar AG is an industrial partner of the University of Bayreuth, the Technical University of Ingolstadt and the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm in the »PROCEED« project, which will be funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with around €1.24 million ($1.41 million) over the next three years. The aim is to improve the electricity supply in Namibia’s rural areas through renewable energies in local »mini-grids«.
These decentralised grids are operated by local providers and not integrated into the nationwide grid. The creation of many local grids is considered to be far more cost-effective and time-saving than the expansion of the national grid. According to IBC Solar, more than half of Namibia’s rural population has no access to electricity.
