On 25 November, Chinese module manufacturer Huasun Energy launched its new Himalaya 760 HV HJT solar module. With a rated power of 760 watts and an efficiency of 24.5 per cent, it is suitable for system voltages of 2,000 volts. Modules for 1,500-volt systems are currently commonplace.

At the product presentation, Xu Xiaohua, chairman of Huasun, explained that the module had been specially developed for large-scale supply projects and projects in desert areas, since high rated power per module and high-voltage operation offer the most economical solutions in such locations. Huasun believes that higher system voltages reduce costs. Simulation results for a 100 MW project in Hami, Xinjiang, showed that the 2,000-volt configuration reduces balance of system (BOS) costs by approximately RMB 0.1157 per watt compared to a 1,500-volt system. In addition, land use is improved.

»These system-level gains translate directly into materially higher investment returns for large utility-scale solar projects,« according to Huasun. »760 watts is not an end point, but a new starting point,« explained Chairman Xu at the launch.
