Independent power producer Greenmillenia Energy Ltd. (GEL) plans to build a 40 MW PV power plant in northern Kenya, reports Ventures Africa. The PV plant, planned for Isiolo County, is scheduled to begin producing power by January 2016. The plant is being set up with support from the Kenyan government and will sell its output to the national grid at a fixed price for a minimum of 20 years. The project has a required investment of approximately $86 million, with financing coming from the Export-Import Bank of China. The African Development Bank could also potentially provide financing for the project. GEL has already secured project approval from Kenya’s Energy Regulatory Commission.
