Google to sell data sets to solar companies for planning purposes

As part of its »Next '23« series of presentations of new products and services, the U.S. Internet company Google Inc. has presented a series of new »Application Programming Interfaces« (API), including the »Solar API.« It is designed to make Google data on buildings, roofs, shading and other relevant variables accessible to solar installers and other companies in the solar industry. According to a Google blog post, it involves data on more than 320 million buildings in 40 countries.
Google expects good opportunities to monetize these, as well as other APIs from the environmental sector. According to media reports, the company expects to generate up to $100 million in revenue in the first year.
