Gigawatt power plant »Noor Abu Dhabi« fully commissioned

The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), which is part of the state-owned Abu Dhabi Power Corporation, has completely commissioned the »Noor Abu Dhabi« solar power plant on Saturday, according to a report by the Emirates News Agency (WAM). With an output of 1.177 GW, the plant in Sweihan in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is, according to EWEC, currently the world's largest single-site solar project.
According to the report, the investment for the power plant amounts to 3.2 billion dirham ($871 million), i.e. around $740 per kilowatt of installed capacity. The plant was designed by Abu Dhabi Power Corporation together with a consortium of the Japanese Marubeni Corporation and the Chinese solar group Jinko Solar Holding. The construction work was carried out by Sterling & Wilson Pvt Ltd of India. The electricity generated in the power plant is sold for 8.888 Fils per kilowatt hour, which is the equivalent of 2.42 cents/kWh.
