Germany's solar industry sees storage boom continuing unabated in 2022

Based on figures from the German Federal Network Agency, the German Solar Industry Association BSW (Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft) has calculated that just under 218,000 new solar battery storage systems were installed last year, including around 214,000 »home storage systems« and around 3,900 »commercial storage systems.« This represents a 52 percent increase over 2021's 141,000 residential and 2,750 commercial storage units. More than two-thirds of all new private PV systems are equipped with a storage system, according to BSW.
The association estimates that around 630,000 German households and 10,000 companies already have a storage system in operation and that these systems amount to a total capacity of 6.7 gigawatt hours (GWh); this would have to increase to 55 GWh by 2030. According to a survey commissioned by BSW from the opinion research institute YouGov, around half of private property owners can also imagine purchasing such a system. 28 percent of the companies surveyed are planning to do so in the next three years.
