On the roofs of the »Goodman Marl Logistics Centre« in Marl, Germany, which opened in 2017, two rooftop photovoltaic systems with six and twelve megawatts of power respectively were officially commissioned on Monday (September 18). The project is a cooperation between the globally active Australian commercial and logistics real estate company Goodman Group and the German food wholesaler Metro AG (via its subsidiary Metro Logistics), as well as the renewable energy company BayWa r.e., which took over the planning and installation of the plant. The electricity generated will mainly be used for Metro Logistics' own needs, with surpluses being fed into the grid.
According to the project participants, the plant, which consists of a good 43,000 modules, is the largest on a Goodman property. The larger of the two sub-systems is also currently the most powerful rooftop photovoltaic system in Germany. This was previously the case for the 9.4-megawatt system on a logistics center in the port of Bremen, which was connected to the grid at the beginning of May.
