Germany to join the International Solar Alliance

Founding Ceremony of International Solar Alliance in New Delhi.

The German federal cabinet has approved Germany's accession to the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which was founded in 2015. The ISA, based near New Delhi, currently has 75 members. The organization pursues the goal of accelerating the expansion of solar energy and aims to add 1,000 gigawatts of solar capacity worldwide by 2030.
A geographical restriction in the ISA framework agreement has so far excluded Germany becoming a member, because only the 121 countries with territories near the equator were admitted. This restriction has been canceled in January 2021.
