German EEG levy account at plus €15.2 billion

The EEG levy account managed by the four German transmission system operators under the country’s Renewable Energy Law (EEG) had a accumulated surplus of €15.19 billion ($16.03 billion) at the end of April, 569 million more than in the previous month and 12.74 billion more than in April 2021.
Revenues in April amounted to €1.69 billion ($1.78 billion), of which €1.16 billion came from payments of the EEG levy (surcharged on the electricity bills of German consumers) and €520 million from the marketing of EEG electricity. The expenses totaling €1.13 billion were predominantly (€1.08 billion) attributable to remuneration payments to renewable-energy-plant operators.
