FRV´s Jordanian »Al Safawi« solar plant starts commercial operations

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, has started the commercial operations at the 66.7 MW »Al Safawi« solar plant in Safawi, a region in northern Jordan. The project was financed with a $65 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Financing for Development Society of the Netherlands (FMO), agreed in 2017.
The two-party loan was granted to »Al Safawi« by Green Energy PSC, a Jordanian company owned 70 percent by FRV and 30 percent by local Jordanian developer Arabia Trading & Consulting Company Ltd (ATC), an Arabia Group company. The project, developed under an EPC contract by TSK, a business group for the development of engineering and supply of energy facilities, has single-axis tracking technology to optimize its performance and more than 200,000 poly-crystalline photovoltaic panels.
»Al Safawi« is FRV´s third photovoltaic power plant developed and owned in the country after »Mafraq I« and »Mafraq II«. According to the company, FRV has now installed 200 MW of PV power.
