Fraunhofer ISE to operate cycle path with solar roofing

As a joint project of Badenova Wärme Plus, which belongs to the energy supplier Badenova, the city of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, the first cycle path with a solar roof in Germany was inaugurated on April 27. The solar modules in glass-glass construction were supplied by Dresden-based Solarwatt GmbH, whose »Panel vision construct« type is one of the few series products that can be used for overhead or façade glazing without a case-by-case examination due to its general building authority approval.
The 900-meter-long solar roof has an output of 287 kilowatts, and the expected average annual yield of 280 megawatt hours will be used primarily in the rooms of Fraunhofer ISE. As leaseholder and operator, the research institute is also responsible for monitoring the system.
