California-based manufacturer Caelux has completed its first order for its perovskite-coated glass. The »Active Glass« technology enables module manufacturers to replace the front glass with glass containing perovskite cells, thereby producing a tandem module with higher efficiency. The contractor is an unnamed American solar developer. The tandem modules with perovskite glass were developed by a »reputable silicon solar manufacturer.«

»We’re thrilled to begin shipping out our technology, paving the way in transitioning solar to tandem. Our team worked hard to achieve this important milestone not only for Caelux, but also for the greater solar industry,« said Scott Graybeal, CEO of Caelux.

According to the company, tandem solar modules equipped with Caelux technology enable up to 30 percent higher power density, 20 percent higher energy production, and up to 20 percent lower project costs.

Caelux uses a passively connected architecture with four connections, in which the silicon cells and perovskite cells are connected in parallel. The interconnection takes place within the module or junction box, so that the module has only two connections as usual, Caelux emphasizes.

For module manufacturers who want to upgrade their standard modules to tandem modules with Caelux perovskite glass, only a few process changes are required during module assembly. The solar glass is compatible with almost all of today’s crystalline silicon solar cells.
