Enel Green Power S.p.A. (EGP), a subsidiary of the Italian energy group Enel S.p.A., installed the first of 550,000 bifacial panels at the 220 MW »Magdalena II« project, located in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.
Construction began in November 2018, completion is expected by the end of 2019. Once operational, the plant, which covers an area of about 800 hectares, will be able to generate 600 GWh a year. Investment amounts to $165 million. The project is supported by several contracts for the sale of energy and clean energy certificates (CEL) to private consumers on a large scale. »Magdalena II« is one of the first plants in the country to be completely dedicated to the industrial consumers of the Wholesale Market of Electrical Energy of Mexico (MEM), where companies purchase and sell electrical energy at the lowest price.
In Mexico, Enel Green Power manages around 1,816 MW, of which 675 MW come from wind energy, around 1,089 MW from solar and 53 MW from hydropower.
