EU Commission aims to speed up approval procedures for renewables

The European Commission wants to speed up the approval procedures for renewable energies and proposed a temporary emergency regulation based on Article 122 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) for this purpose on November 9.
In the »REPowerEU« plan, the Commission had already in October announced measures to improve the lengthy and complex administrative procedures for renewable energy projects. But it would take too long for these to be transposed into national law by all member states. The emergency regulation would therefore apply for one year, bridging the time needed for all member states to adopt and implement the Renewable Energy Directive currently under discussion.
This would allow new permitting processes to benefit from a simplified review with immediate effect with regard to certain exemptions provided for in EU environmental legislation.
