Energyra to produce modules with »Zebra« cells
Post date: 04/09/2020 - 15:53
Dutch solar module manufacturer Energyra BV has announced series modules with »Zebra« type rear contact cells. The cell technology was developed at International Solar Energy Research Center Konstanz (Germany) and is characterized by particularly high efficiencies of up to 24 percent in series production. Another feature is that the cells do not require passivated contacts, which reduces production costs.
The module design was developed by the Dutch research institute ECN, which now belongs to the Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (Nederlandse Organisatie voor toegepast-natuurwetenschappelijk onderzoek, TNO). A first prototype of the new module was presented on September 3 at the factory in Zaandam (Noord Holland). Production is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of this year. The annual production capacity is 100 megawatts.
Energyra, ISC and TNO, belong to the »IconIQ-Greefab« consortium, which aims to bring »high-end« cell and module production back to Europe. The Energyra modules are therefore marketed under the brand »IconIQ«. For the time being, however, the cells are supplied by the Chinese SPIC Xian Solar Power Co. Ltd. in Xining, which is the first manufacturer worldwide to produce Zebra cells. Later the cells will be produced in Lithuania.
