Consortium receives funding for offshore PV platform

The Dutch »Merganser« consortium is receiving project funding of € 7.8 million ($ 8.1 million) from the economic development agency RVO (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) to develop, test and evaluate its offshore photovoltaic platform. The consortium includes the company SolarDuck and research partners TNO, Deltares, MARIN and Delft University of Technology.
The joint project’s objective is to test the Merganser platform under harsh conditions. The units, each with 500 kilowatts of installed capacity, can be linked together to form larger systems. In July, SolarDuck had agreed on a cooperation with German energy company RWE, the aim of which is to install five megawatts of power on Merganser platforms in an RWE offshore wind farm.
