Colombia will auction 5 GW of renewable capacity in early 2021

The Colombian government plans to organize the second renewable energy auction during the first quarter 2021. According to French consultancy Enerdata, the country intends to allocate around 5 GW of renewable capacity. Projects selected in the procurement process will sign a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) and must be grid connected by December 31, 2022.
In October 2019, Colombia selected 7 power generation companies to be awarded 8 renewable projects (5 wind and 3 solar) with a combined capacity of 1,298 MW, says the article.
So far, the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME) has registered more than 7.2 GW of renewable projects (excluding hydropower projects) in Colombia.
