BioSolar partners with UCSB on supercapacitor technology for solar energy storage

US PV materials provider BioSolar Inc. has partnered with the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) to develop a low cost polymer-based supercapacitor technology that would reduce the costs of solar energy storage. The two entities jointly own the patent-application for the supercapacitor technology. BioSolar states that while conventional supercapacitors are very expensive, its BioSuperCap technology can be developed at lower costs. This is because the technology is integrated as the front-end to battery banks, resulting in fewer batteries being used.
