Battery storage with a capacity of 25 MWh put into operation in Germany

German Upside Group has commissioned a storage facility with lead-carbon batteries in Bennewitz, Saxony, Germany. The capacity is 16 MW / 25 MWh. SMA Solar Technology AG supplied its SMA Sunny Central Storage battery inverters and hybrid controllers. According to SMA, the battery storage system contributes to grid relief in the entire region and to the stabilization of the Central European electricity grid.
A total of 18 containers with more than 10,500 battery cells and nine battery inverters were installed and connected to the power grid in Bennewitz. According to the company, the batteries come from China and have a service life of 20 years. The Upside Group develops, maintains and operates solar power plants and battery storage systems to provide system services.
