The Swiss energy company Axpo is building another “alpine” solar power plant at around 2,000 meters above sea level in the municipality of Tujetsch in the canton of Graubünden. The 8 MW “NalpSolar” plant (the image shows a visualization of the planned plant) will supply the mountain railroads of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB with electricity. Depending on the weather, construction is scheduled to begin in March, with partial commissioning of ten percent of the plant by the end of 2025 and full completion in summer 2026.
Annual electricity production is estimated at eleven gigawatt hours – a very high yield by Central European standards due to the mountainous location. In addition, the alpine location means that comparatively good yields can also be expected in the winter months when yields are low at other locations.
