Graz-based storage manufacturer Accupower claims to have achieved a “technological breakthrough” in the field of sodium-ion batteries with its “Natec series”. At a press conference in Vienna on April 2, the company announced the start of series production of sodium-ion batteries for industrial applications.
“Sodium-ion batteries are considered to be the future of electrical energy and offer significant advantages over lithium-ion batteries. They do not require critical raw materials, are more fire-safe, have up to four times the service life and can be recharged faster, making them up to 90 percent more sustainable,” says the company.
Accupower cites the newly developed battery management system (BMS) as a key innovation.
“The fact that we are now able to bring sodium-ion batteries into series production with Natec significantly reduces our dependence on rare and conflict-prone raw materials. We are delighted to be able to make a decisive contribution to a better environmental balance here,” said Bettina Haberler, COO Accupower, at the event.
