$9.8 billion pledged for Green Climate Fund

At the second pledging conference for the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which ended last week, commitments of $9.78 billion were made for the next four years. This is a significant increase over the $9.3 billion pledged at the first conference in 2014, although some of these contributions are still due.
The highest contributions at the second conference were pledged by the UK ($1.85 billion), France ($1.79 billion), Germany ($1.69 billion), Japan ($1.5 billion) and Sweden ($0.85 billion). To date, the GCF has supported 111 projects in 99 countries. The aim is to finance projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change in developing countries.
