As of Tuesday’s (May 31) publication, 26,460 photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 517 megawatts (MW) were newly reported to the German Federal Network Agency's (BnetzA) market data register in April, down 29.9 percent from March (738 MW) and 15.0 percent from April 2021 (608 MW). This represents 2.10 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity reported in the first four months of this year. Extrapolated for the full year, this would equate to just under 6.30 GW (2021: 5.26 GW). In addition, there are an estimated 325 to 350 MW from plants that do not receive remuneration under Germany’s Renewable Energy law (EEG) and thus are not taken into account by the BNetzA in its monthly figures.
