$500 million program for rural electrification in Guinea

Guinea’s state-owned utility Electricité de Guinée (EDG) has agreed a memorandum of understanding with Swiss renewable energy project developer Terra Sola Group AG for a $500 million investment program. The program is intended to accelerate Guinea’s electrification, particularly in rural areas. Terra Sola has formed »an international technology and investment consortium for this purpose.«
In addition to expanding the West African country’s transmission and distribution networks, the program comprises the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 500 megawatts, including modern storage systems, as well as a center for training and education courses for local employees. The development of the program is expected to be completed within nine months, and construction of the first power plant could then begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.
