NV Energy starts commercial operation of 50 MW »Boulder Solar II« power plant

100 MW »Boulder I« PV plant

Nevada-based utility NV Energy Inc. announced that the 50 MW »Boulder Solar II« power plant achieved its commercial operation status and is now serving customers in Nevada. »Boulder Solar II« was developed, designed and constructed by Sunpower Corp. It is located southeast of Las Vegas adjacent to the »Boulder Solar I« resource, which also recently was completed by Sunpower. Combined, these two projects represent the largest solar energy resource serving NV Energy customers, says the company. »Boulder Solar II« is owned by AEP Renewables LLC, a subsidiary of American Electric Power. Sunpower is providing ongoing operation and maintenance services for the facility on behalf of AEP Renewables.
In November 2016, Southern Power, subsidiary of utility Southern Company, has acquired a controlling interest in the 100 MW »Boulder Solar I« facility in Nevada from Sunpower, which owns the remaining interest in the project. With the addition of the »Boulder Solar I« facility, Southern Power owns more than 2,700 MW of renewable generation from 33 solar, wind and biomass facilities either announced, acquired or under construction.
